Lauren Yancey, OD
Lauren Yancey, O.D.
Dr. Lauren Yancey grew up in the very small town of Ivy, Virginia. Her favorite memory from her childhood was having the amazing opportunity to hike and camp overnight in the Grand Canyon.
Dr. Yancey became interested in ocular health in middle school when she didn't understand why her brother was prescribed a contact lens for only one eye. She continued to pursue this passion in high school by working as an optometric technician during summers. She shadowed different medical professionals throughout college to expand her knowledge in other disciplines, including neurosurgery, cardiology, and orthopedics. After graduating college, she used her gap year to work as an optometric technician.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Sciences with minors in biology, chemistry, and physics at Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her optometric education at Pennsylvania College of Optometry where she earned her doctorate degree. She was elected by her colleagues as class president for three years. Additionally, she was selected to tutor fellow students in many subjects including her favorite courses, neuro-ophthalmic disease and pharmacology. While completing her doctorate, she also attended Saint Joseph's University where she received her Master of Business Administration.
Dr. Yancey completed specialized training in neuro-ophthalmic disease, ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, and ocular care in a hospital setting. She has special interests in neuro-ophthalmic disease, dry eye disease, the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, and ocular emergencies.
After graduation, Dr. Yancey moved to Georgia to be closer to family. She was drawn to Georgia Mountain Ophthalmology because of the friendliness of the staff and her love for small towns! In her spare time, Dr. Yancey enjoys snuggling with her rescue pup, spending time with family, and indulging in different cuisines and activities the greater North Atlanta area has to offer.
